To get the Nightstar — a mid-range flail that is one of the best starter weapons for learning enemy patterns — enter the correct city building in Ossex, move through it to a small garden area, then use five vials to unlock the chest containing the weapon.

How to reach the Nightstar chest

  1. In Ossex, look for the building with two lamps on the sides and a fire on the left.
  2. Enter the building.
  3. Head upward through the interior.
  4. You will pass an NPC merchant inside. You do not need to buy anything for this weapon.
  5. Continue upward until you exit into a small garden area.

Important vial requirement

Before trying to claim the Nightstar, make sure you have five Plasma Vials available. If you need more vial capacity, the Primed Vial Pouch hidden south of Ossex adds two extra vials — worth grabbing before this detour.

There is an enemy or obstacle near the vial placement area that can interfere while you are trying to deposit them. If you use a vial during the fight, you may no longer have enough to open the way, so it is safer to arrive with extras or be ready to avoid using any.

Unlocking the chest

Once you reach the correct spot:

  • Place the five vials.
  • Deal with or avoid the nearby enemy so it does not interrupt you.
  • Open the chest after the vials are placed.

The chest contains the Nightstar — a flail-class weapon with long reach and medium attack speed. Once acquired, you can upgrade it at any Underlab through the Bone Up system. Pair it with range-friendly trinkets like Chain Capacitor to stack damage on clean hits, or Steady Soles to prevent knockback while positioning for tip-range strikes.

Shortcut note

There is also a shortcut in the garden area that can be destroyed, letting you access this route from the statue side of the city later. If you plan to come back after gathering enough vials, opening this shortcut makes the return trip easier. You can also fast-travel back via the Ossex hub.
